Coming into this summer my family decided to embark on a quest to find the best Pizza in Fort Wayne.

UPDATED RANKINGS! (8/02/21)

Pizza Hut – 8.79

Mozzarelli’s Pizza – 8.10

Lexy’s Pizza – 8.07

800 Degrees – 7.78

Pizza King – 7.33

Zianos – 7.00

Greek’s Pizzeria – 6.93

Girodano’s – 5.67

Each week of summer break our family of 7 is getting pizza from a different pizza place.  During our meal, debates ensue, notes take place, and detailed tabulations are made by each individual.  We have several rating methods for the crust, sauce, and toppings; although the most critical is the final overall weighting of 1-10.   To help you understand our rating tabulations, here are the general descriptions we use to discover the best pizza in Fort Wayne.  I’ll share some of our overall thoughts! :)

Week 1 – Greek’s Pizzeria

Service – Online ordering easy and a plus.  Upon arrival we were greeted quickly and the order was ready.

Sauce – The sauce is a sweet fruity taste and had mixed reviews.  It was loved or disliked, nothing in the middle.

Toppings – Toppings were fresh.

Notes – A unique pizza, the forgettable crust and breadsticks brought the overall rating down.

Weighted Rating:  6.93

Week 2 – Lexy’s Pizza

Service – Phone order only.  Upon arrival we were greeted after a few minutes waiting (no line ahead of us).  You can see right into the kitchen when you walk in.  The lady that checked us out had been making pizza’s and had the same gloves on that she was making pizza with.  I don’t know if she changed gloves before she went back to pizza making, but this would be an issue for germaphobes.

Sauce – The right amount and excellent classic taste.

Toppings – Cheese lovers will love that Lexy’s has a generous amount of cheese.

Notes – Deep dish was the runaway favorite.

Weighted Rating:  8.07

Week 3 – Mozzarelli’s Pizza

Service – Their website was a little clanky; I ended up ordering via phone.  Upon arrival, service was excellent and friendly.  Also, changed up the order with some extra breadsticks and they were very quick and accommodative.

Crust – Best scores to date on both breadsticks and crust.  Only one descenting vote on the pizza crust, myself, apparently I prefer a greasier crust.

Notes – Nothing special noted about the toppings or sauce, the gluten/breading was a big hit that brought the scoring up.

Weighted Rating:  8.1

Week 4 – Giordano’s

Service – Online ordering was easy.  Specific door for carry out orders a plus.  Pizza was ready on time and we were greeted quickly upon arrival.

Toppings – No one preferred the sauce on top of the cheese.  It distracted everyone from the actual toppings which were good quality.

Crust – Crust received low marks from everyone except one child that gave it an above average rating.

Notes – Really nice looking restaurant building and interior is well done.  Experience and service was good, unfortunately, the taste of the pizza won no one in my family of seven. Certainly no wow factor, mostly disappointment.

Our family was unprepared or unready to take on this fork and knife pizza.

Weighted Rating:  5.67

Week 5 – Pizza King

Service – Old school order with phone order only.  It was reminiscent of the 1990’s with a friendly surfer teenager taking the order.

Sauce/Toppings – Multiple independent notes about the flavor being “blah,” “not blown away,” and “not much flavor.”

Crust – “Good to the very edge” pizza had mixed results.

Notes – Presentation and delivery of the pizza was unusual.  Oddly we had multiple complaints within the household about the square cut pizza slices.  Also, a majority of us found it cheap and sorta gross that the second pizza was given to us in a bag.  Breadsticks were above average.  Overall Pizza King finds itself in the middle of the pack, merely an ordinary citizen in the pizza realm.

Weighted Rating:  7.33

Week 6 – Zianos

Service – Pickup order on Dupont has always been hit or miss but our food was ready on time for this order.

Crust – Excellent crust.

Notes – An unconventional pizza place pick in Zianos.  We’ve always loved their breadsticks and thought it could translate into a wonderful pizza.  This point was proved right with high rankings for crust and breadsticks.  However, warmth of the pizza was an issue and the pizza was solid but wowed no-one.  While this would be a good dine-in choice, this is clearly not a pizza place and they are not setup to compete with some of our other favorite pizza places.

Weighted Rating:  7.00

Week 7 – 800 Degrees

Service – Online ordering was a breeze.  Pickup was within expected time frame and friendly service.

Crust and Toppings – Higher than average ratings.

Notes – Higher quality pizza with excellent toppings.  800 degrees provided the favorite gluten free pizza to date.  A tasty meal.  However, pizzas were small so make sure to order an extra pizza or two if you like a good fill.  Perfect for those looking for help with portion control.  Also, there were low ratings on the forgettable breadsticks.

Weighted Rating:  7.78

Week 8 – Pizza Hut

Service – Online ordering looked simple but the taco pizza was not a choice so call-in order was completed.  Pickup was easy with the drive thru.

Crust – Among the highest ratings possible.  Pan crust is nearly unbeatable and rivals another family favorite in Jets Pizza.

Notes – From ordering and pickup to their pizza options and highly rated pan crust, Pizza Hut of Fort Wayne set a high standard on a variety of levels. While there was a consensus to avoid the stuffed crust in the future, the cheesy breadsticks received high marks. It should also be noted there were two dissenters with fairly modest ratings, but the very high ratings of the five other judges pushed Pizza Hut to victory lane.

Weighted Rating:  8.79

Thank you for sharing this! Pizza is one of my favorite foods, and I love trying out as many pizza restaurants as possible! I can’t wait to try some of your recommendations. My favorite pizza is the one with the most cheese on it. If cheese pizza is what I’m looking for, would Lexy’s pizza be the best choice for me?
